PRICING METHODS AND COSTS

I normally only work on a fixed cost basis with a defined scope of work.  This can be a fee per project or a monthly retainer.  Either way the scope of work, deliverables, and meeting time expectations will be clearly defined in advance.

Usually, I can provide an estimate of cost based on our early conversations and some preliminary information that you will provide.

If agreeable, we can move forward and I will request more details about your project which I can then use to turn into a formal proposal that will outline the scope of work, deliverables, meeting time, and completion timeline along with costs.

If the proposal is accepted, I will issue a formal letter of engagement.  I require one-half of a project fee paid in advance with the balance due after completion of the project.  For larger and longer projects, I will develop a payment schedule based on completion points within the larger project.

For monthly retainer agreements, I will require the first month paid in advance and then subsequent months will cover the upcoming month’s services.  An engagement for ongoing services will be evaluated at three months from the start date to confirm that the work is meeting your expectations and that the information provided at the proposal stage was accurate and complete.  At this review point, the engagement can be continued as is, amended, or terminated.

Costs for my services vary greatly depending on the scope of work that I am asked to take on with or for you.  I normally will not accept a project or monthly retainer for less than $500.  This equals about 5 hours of work including prep, work time, meeting time, and revisions.  $500 may seem like a lot for a small project, but keep in mind that there is plenty of work done outside of our actual time together, plus I need to cover a lot of overhead costs that an employer normally provides for its employees.  Also keep in mind that when higher levels skills are required, billing rates may be higher.
